Because these programs, like the property that is employ to fund them, are intentional and supplied by not the tutors themselves, like you would instruct in a individual(a) venture, but rather, these things are pass to them by the political process and the managers are on that point simply to see that the job gets do.In the common soldier sector, maven can use the financial success of a firm to set up if the ma nager for that firm is productive or not. For example, if their harvest-time has appreciate to it than the customer will get it and the gild will provide a profit (1995, p 549). However, since the customers of many of the mankind agency are all compelled to use, and/or they do not net profit for the serve well at the time of use, than this sign of perspicacity is not a sound way to measure the valuate of the man management styles, nor are they very useable for analyzing the programs themselves. check to Moore, a lot what is through with(p) is that some attribute of cost-benefit analyses is done every forwards and/or after the program is started and this development is because(prenominal) compared to a similar dish up in the private sector to subside the potentiality of the management style. Instead, Moore suggests that research in a cost- economicalness flack may be a solution to this problem (1995, p 553). All of these essays end up with the same major issue concerning touchstone the successful cosmos management style, from one that is not successful. In one form or another both Moore and Moe have called for research in finding some meter in analyzing the common sector. In any analytic thinking standard, the set up that political sympathies has in its creation cannot be ignored. Specific Learning Difficulties, Dyslexia Assignment

Specific Learning Difficulties, Dyslexia - Assignment ExampleIn understanding the relationship, it is also imperative to define social construction. As documented by Burr (1995), social construction is advanced by the social constructionist theory, which is a sociological theory that describes how the objects of consciousness or social phenomenon thrive in the social contexts. Thus, when dyslexia is described as a subject of social construction, it implies it is simply an attribute of contingent aspects of social perceptions, as opposed to the attributes that are possessed by Dyslexia. Social constructionism notions can be earthed based on reality because it is often biased form reality. It is as a result of stance that assumed and which takes association for granted (Lamond & Wiseman n.d).As far as social construction processes and marginalization process is concerned, Bourdieu proposes that behaviours and patterns of human behaviours, as well as groups of people can be predicted because they fly the coop to assume a certain trend. These assume a social structure that is hegemonic in nature. Consequently, certain groups of people or individuals become limited by such social structures. Another perspective of relevance regarding social construction is that perspective advanced by Foucault. Foucault theorizes that there are various notions that are considered to be worthwhile or that which represents the truth. In the real sense, such notions are only social constructed and function to constrain their effectiveness and inconvenience, other people. other people. As far as Dyslexia is concerned, these views can be hardly disputed. They are a representation of reality in the events that play in areas of contact by the dyslexia people. It has also been evidenced in other areas such as those that touch on masculinity, as evidenced in Davies (2008) and genders issues (Skelton and Francis, 2009 Skelton, 2010).What is Dyslexia? To begin with, according to British Dy slexia Association (2013), dyslexia is defined as check up on characterized by the

These abnormal diets have found acceptance in modern societies and this has led to bulimic behavior in the sub-clinical form. There can be no denying that the liking to remain thin, by attempting to restrict weight, is the trigger for the disorder. Bulimia has an effect on the emotions of the individual with the disorder and prevents the experiencing of uneasy feelings owing to the bulimic behavior. This is a paradox, as binge- eat syndrome is the cause of their out of control behavior, and yet, is the only means for feeling that they are in control of the situation. The inherent dread of remaining without this protection is the reason that the bulimic behavior is maintained and gradually increases in severity to hold sway over all other emotional experiences. Diagnosis of bulimia nervous is not an easy task, as the bulimic individual tends to hide the disorder. All the same(p), there are several symptoms that indicate the disorder. Recurrently occurring binge eating is the first. Binge eating may be considered as the consuming of an amount of food, during a specific period of time that is definitely larger than is normal for most people during the same period given, given that the circumstances are similar. A critical evaluation of the role of Budgetting Essay

A critical evaluation of the role of Budgetting - Essay Exampleresults in nothing more than dysfunctional behaviour has initially been proposed by Hope and Fraser (2003) as part of the Beyond Budgeting Round Table (BBRT).This report is a review of relevance of budgeting in contemporary business contexts and an attempt to elicit which one among better budgeting or beyond budgeting will be effective to the CFO of Halfords Group plc. This report is prepared to submit to the CFO as he asked me to review literatures and prepare a report based on budgeting- lost relevance after he participated in a conference that made him interested about the matter. In finance and accounting, budgeting is a formal plan expressed in monetary terms and is prepared in a current monetary year to provide managers and other stakeholders with an estimate of the anticipated costs and revenues for the next financial year (Chandra, Menon and Mishra, 2007, p. 264). Traditionally, budgets served a number of useful purposes such as 1) preparation annual business operations, 2) coordinating various activities in the organisation, 3) communicating these plans to various responsibility managers or departments, 4) motivating managers to achieve desired organisational goal, 5) controlling all activities in the firm and 6) evaluating managers performance (Drury, 2006, p. 426).Because of that budgeting looks both forward and backward, it identifies resources that the company is likely to generate and the need in its near future to serve as a billhook of current and past performance of department and individual managers (Fabozzi and Drake, 2009, p. 334). Why budgeting has been traditionally considered as an effective strategic tool for management accounting was that it was nothing tho a plan relating to future and it helped management take various critical decisions pertaining to strategic planning, budgetary planning and operational planning (Walker, 2006, p. 305). International refugee law - Essay ExampleIn this regard the paper is divided into two sections with the first section traffic with the internationally recognized rights of refugees and the second section providing for the context of Somali refugees in Kenya and their right to stay out of refugee camps.Countries have been allowing protection for people and groups escaping persecution for centuries, however the occurrent approach to protecting the rights of these individuals is based on a law that has its origins in the aftermath of the Second World War. The greatest challenge facing individuals arriving in a foreign country is to convince authorities that they are entitled to recognition as refugees. The questions that are raised by the authorities is the level of risk inevitable by the standard of well-founded fear, the harm encompassed by being persecuted and the duty of the refugees to seek an internal remedy before seeking refugee protection in some other country. For reasons of both pragmatism and principle less developed countries, which host the greater majority of refugees, rarely contest the eligibility of refugee status for individuals arriving at its borders. The conceptual generosity of these states, however does not match with the efforts of these countries to treat the refugees in line with the provisions of the refugee convention. In essence, refugees in less developed countries are often socially marginalized, detained, left physically at risk and even denied the capability of meeting their most basic needs.1Individuals who are forced to run away from their country due to the fear of persecution, whether as give way of a group or on an individual basis due to religious, military, political or any other reason are regarded as refugees. Interdependence evaluation - Essay ExampleAutomobile companies spend their time to improving the total quality of their products. Bankers tried their take up to bigger banks with orbicular presence. Media companies aggressively reaching out at new markets with new vigor. Telecom companies are buying out stakes in farthermost away markets to gain more strength. In such a scenario competitive strength is the crucial word. The entrepreneurs understand the increasing pressure on them in this global business scenario. So they are improving their quality of the product and service to face the competition ahead. Technology has played a major enjoyment in deciding competitive strength. Cutting across sector all business units are deliberately and seriously vying options to improve their technology. Here comes the importance of interdependence.People over want goods and services. Goods are tangible items such as books, cars, carrots, paper clips, and shirts. Services are activities tha t people want done for them, such as haircuts, car repairs, teaching, or housecleaning. Fortunately, every society is endowed with resources which can be used to provide many of these goods and services. These resources, which economists call productive resources, are usually classified into three groups such as land, labour and capital. He says that while land refers to natural resources, labour is human work and capital is physical resources. While productive resources are limited but individuals want unlimited goods and services from limited resources. This gap between production and demand creates scarcity of commodities Entrepreneurs are those who address this scarcity and provide goods and services. The entrepreneur purchases scarce productive resources, and then organizes the production of a particular good or service. (Harlan R Day, Economics and Entrepreneur, Indiana Department Of Education, Center for School progress and Per yearance, Office of School Assistance, 1991)The main goal of the entrepreneur is to make Profit from his products or services. To become a successful entrepreneur need to understand his customers needs. This has necessitated more cautious approach from the entrepreneur. The entrepreneur has to choose carefully scarce productive resources Resources used to produce one particular good or service cannot be used to produce another. The true cost of using a resource is the best alternative use for that resource. Economists call this best alternative use of the fortune (Harlan R Day, Economics and Entrepreneur, Indiana Department Of Education, Center for School Improvement and Performance, Office of School Assistance, 1991)Recently entrepreneurship has been modeled explicitly as a form of human capital accumulation usually linked to the long run size of the firm (Bates 1990, Iyigun and Owen 1998, Otani 1996). It was also said that the availability of external financing is a crucial determinant of the amount of entrepreneurial activity in a community (Evans and Jovanovic 1989, Evans and Leighton 1989, Kihlstrom and Laffont 1979).But in the todays context, there have been drastic changes on the role of business. Though profit is continued to be the driving force for entrepreneurs and enterprises, the way of production and services have changed in both concept and meaning. It is

Foreign firms continue to dump low-cost steel in the U.S markets, thereby affecting the operations of domestic firms, and most importantly those of Nucor. Nucor has had to compete against low-cost steel imports in the U.S, as China, Russia, Brazil, and India continue to dump their steel in the U.S markets. The analysis of the U.S steel industry and the subsequent position held by Nucor in that industry are based on Porters five forces model. Nucors integration of this model into its operations can be summarized by the figure belowCompetition in the U.S steel industry is intense and characterized by both domestic and foreign firms (Thompson 214). Foreign firms compete with the domestic firms on the basis of supplying steel imports to the United States. Nucor engages Mittal Steel and U.S Steel in stiff competition since all the three firms are set up in the United States. In other words, the two companies are the key

Wassenaar and Steven J. Coy took control of the kitchen of the Morey unit (a facility that is part of the Lewis Prison Complex in Buckeye, Arizona) by subduing Correctional Officer Kenneth Martin, the lone officer then in charge of a total of 19 inmates assigned to work in the area (Preliminary Repport., 2004). The two inmates managed to subjugate the officer by wielding shanks or home-made weapons shaped like a knife. After securing Martin with handcuffs, Wassenaar, dressed in the correctional officers uniform, managed to access the 20-foot newspaper column situated in the middle of the facility by deceiving the assigned prison guards, Jason N . Auch and Lois Fraley into thinking he is also a correctional officer. Wassenaar quickly hit Auch in the head with a three-foot metal pole, as related by Fraley to Anderson Cooper, host of 360 in a later interview (Transcript of Police., 2005). Wassenaar then cuffed Fraleys hands base her. He then forced his two hostages to show him where the weapons are stored.Around this time, Coy remained in the kitchen and sexually assaulted a female kitchen worker. Afterwards, another correctional officer, Robert D. Cornett arrived at the area to relieve Martin. He too was overpowered by Coy. A short while later, Correctional Officers Coy C. Kelley and Elizabeth M. DeBaugh arrived at the dining area to escort two inmates. Cornett alerted his two colleagues and Kelley tried to wrench the homemade weapon from Coys hand but was unsuccessful.Kelley and DeBaugh pursued Coy, alerting several other officers near the tower area. Architecture history exam Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 1

Architecture history exam - Essay ExampleOne of the reasons for these differences was religion, in which the Athenians had pagan religions that were not prohibitive on gender relations. Therefore, architects were not held to religious standards during construction and saw exposure of men and women nude even in their private quarters as a distinguish of civilization, un manage Islamic cities in which architects had to adhere to strict religious requirements on gender segregation and privacy. In Islamic cities, the creation of turf for men and women was one of the most weighty elements during design and construction. Rather than these turfs establishing distinctive regions of physicality however, they were meant to insulate the genders by increasing line-of-sight distance (Abu-Lughod 162). This necessitated the height of nearby buildings and window placement in such a way that protected the visual privacy of neighbors. This was meant to prevent men from seeing women in their privac y, although it did not prevent women from seeing men in their privacy. The architecture of Islamic cities in this way was different to that in Athens. For example, the Parthenon in Athens contained various open floors that contained many offices in which both genders could attend, as well as a spacious h any designed for transactions with the public without any form of overt gender segregation. While there was some segregation, this was only physical in nature and not visual. In addition, the use of columns, rather than solid walls ensured that both genders could see one another in their privacy (Tournikiotis 43). In addition, the agora that was set at the top of the hill was mainly made of terracing that allowed citizens to sit and watch presentations but did not limit the line-of-sight in any way, being visible from all part of the city. Away from public blanks, the dwelling areas in Islamic cities were also segregated into private and public space. This was meant to ensure that men could move around the residential area without interfering with womens activities and movements. For example, most houses had wings for men on the first floor that accessed the garden and balconies on the ground floor and these wings contained the sleeping quarters for the house-head and sitting rooms (Abu-Lughod 163). However, the women were housed on the 2nd and 3rd floors for receiving guests and living quarters. In Athens, women were also confined to the interior parts of the house. However, when it came to a space like the Parthenon, the democratic spaces were created to be viewed from all parts of the city, while the agora was designed in a way that exposed voting individuals to everyone. The main difference mingled with these spaces in Athens and Islamic cities was that men were allowed to walk naked in Athens, although, just as in Islamic cities, women were expected to be clothed with gravitas (Tournikiotis 33). Walking naked for Athenian men in their houses, which w ere exposed, was meant to be a way of affirming their masculinity and showing them, as good lovers. Another obvious sign of sexual segregation in Islamic cities was the public bath sign that indicates the day ladies are meant to take a bath. Other signs show subtler governance of space and time. In addition, women from poor families who could not afford top duplicate space were protected from

Wild Scenes Essay Example for Free

Wild Scenes EssayBill Crows Jazz Anecdotes is a thought-provoking, often amusing collection of stories from inwardly completes inner circles, told by and about some of the genres leading figures. While not a history of enjoy, it gives readers some insights to how fill out artists worked, lived, bonded, and coped with an America in which many were still outsiders. The books forty-three chapters (expanded from the original 1990 edition) describe the life lie with musicians shared, offering insights into a rather exclusive, improper circle of performing artists. The numerous anecdotes are categorized by chapters, gathering related tales and moving from a general overview of jazz life to anecdotes about individuals, similar Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, and Benny Goodman. Essentially, Crow creates a context in which jazz musicians lived, and then places individual musicians within it, giving readers a better understanding of how they functioned in this noble-minded climate. F or example, the volume opens with Wild Scenes, which Crow says describes how the individuality of jazz musicians combines with the capricious world in which they try to make a living (Crow 3).The brief chapter sets the stage for the rest period of the book, giving glimpses of the unconventional world jazz musicians inhabited (which explains to some degree their relationship to party at large). The Word Jazz contains attempts to explain the origins of the genres name, and Inventions offers accounts of how certain innovations occurred (such as Dizzy Gillespies distinctive bent trumpet), giving the reader a sense of history though the work is not an Orthodox history per se. Many of the stories contained in Jazz Anecdotes dumbfound the musicians camaraderie and warmth toward each other, as well as each others idiosyncrasies.Others convey how difficult and often arbitrary the jazz lifestyle often was. Hiring and Firing demonstrates how unstable many musicians careers were, rife with d isputes over money or dismissals for their personal quirks. (For example, come Basie fired Lester Young for refusing to participate in recording sessions occurring on the 13th of any month. ) Managers, Agents, and Bosses offers a glimpse into the seamier underside of jazz, where dishonest managers and mobsters often trapped jazz performers in unfair contracts or worse.Though jazz musicians appear to inhabit a special world, Crow does not discuss jazz in a social vacuum, tying it to social phenomena same(p) race relations. In Prejudice, the tales take a more serious tone by showing how black jazz artists faced abundant racism, particularly in the South. However, Crow notes that Jazz helped to start the erosion of racial prejudice in America . . . because it drew whites and blacks together into a common experience (Crow 148). Jazz artists dealt with racism in various ways Bessie metalworker and Billie Holiday stood up to it while Zutty Singleton accepted it.Meanwhile, even white mu sicians like Stan Smith angered both races whites for performing with blacks, and blacks for intruding on their music (Crow 152). The final chapters focus on individual artists, illustrating the greats personalities. Louis Armstrong emerges as earthy and good-hearted Bessie Smith as strong and willful but ultimately self-destructive Fats Waller is an impish pleasure-seeker given to excellent music but poor business decisions and Benny Goodman as gifted but tight-fisted and controlling.Taken as a whole, Jazz Anecdotes offers a look at jazzs human side, including its foibles, genius, camaraderie, crookedness, and connection to an American society from which it sometimes stood apart. Its legendary figures are depicted as gifted, devoted artists who enjoyed hedonism, companionship, and particularly independence. If any single thing stands out in this book, it is the latter for the figures in this work, jazz meant creativity and freedom, which they pursued with equal vigor and vitality. Crow, Bill. The Use of Animals in Biomedical Research Essay Example for Free

The Use of Animals in Biomedical Research EssayThere is a big issue on the use of animals for biomedical research (i.e., research d single for the understanding and promotion mainly of merciful macrocosms life. Such would include, but not limited to, medical conceptuality and testing, formulation and testing of hypotheses about diseases, surgical experiments, testing of various consumer goods for safety, and psychological experimentations). At least up to the register time, animals atomic number 18 still widely apply for research. In an estimate by Barbara Orlans (2001, 400), there are like 50 to100 million animals being used for research annually. Nevertheless, with an increasing awareness on the complexness of animal psyche and the increased voice that animal rights advocates project, the chasteity of such research (along with the separate uses that animals require) has been put into question. In a Dutch animal military commission hearing on the use of animals for c ancer medical testing, for example, a woman who is terminally ill due to cancer stepped forward and said that she would rather separate than have an other(a) animal take over painlessly just for her cure.Human beings are beginning to be acutely aware of such experimentations and unalike sentiments and ideas have been brought to the core. Now, amidst the close unending debate on the use of animals for biomedical research, I would want to first, present the philosophical debate on this issue then second, present my opinion on it. To be able to accomplish this goal, I would first present the debate amidst Carl Cohen and Bernard Rollin. Afterwards, I will present what I say is a middle position amidst the two.The Cohen-Rollin Debate A representative debate on this issue would be the debate between Carl Cohen and Bernard Rollin. Basically, the two are debating on the clean-living status of animals. Allow me to present a summary of the points of these two philosophers. Carl Cohen, a speciesist, says that animals do not have rights and that animal experimentation should go on. A speciesist (2002, 303) is someone who says that our species, i.e., the sympathetic species, gives us all the moral rights that we have. That ultimately, what births us different, and hence rules on homophile experimentation are different, is the fact that we belong to human kind. As such, humankind cannot just be experimented on but would need precautions like informed consent measurement of risk the prior and post paygrade of the research using the principles of autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice etcetera. Hence, because we are humans, we have all the rights and privileges that we know we have. Now, the next question that we may have, which Cohen answers, is what makes us humans in the first take aim? For Cohen, the answer is pretty simple. We are human beings because we have moral capacities which animals do not have. These moral capacities refer to the aptit ude of human beings in applying an abstract moral rule on an act has capabilities to make moral claims has the capacity to comprehend rules of duty the capability for self-legislation and are members of communities governed by moral rules (2002, 300-302).These moral capacities would then make human beings are confident of understanding conceptual principles of morality (like for example, do good to others, or do not do actions that would purposely harm other human beings) and apply such to individual human actions. Now because of this capacity, human beings have the capacity for self-restraint. They do not need others (presuming that they are already deep down the age of reason, i.e., mature enough to do these tasks) to restrain them from harming their fellows.Nor would they need others to goad them to do acts that are praiseworthy. As such, human beings could legislate themselves, i.e., govern their own actions. Now, because of this, human beings could very well belong to a fami liarity of other human beings who are capable of the same moral capacities as he is. And his belonging to this community is of the nature that rules and laws are there to minimally guide human interaction. They are not there to govern each single action of the human being. This would esteem that human beings, on the most part, are free on how they interact with each other. She/he is free provided that her/his actions are responsible actions, i.e., actions that the human being may be made accountable for. Now, these moral capacities make human beings capable of rights. Rights basically refer to claims, or potential claims, at bottom a community of moral agents (2002, 300). The human capacity for understanding concepts and applying such concepts in his dealings and acts with each other makes the human being capable of making such claims. At this point, Cohen says that these rights cannot overcompensate to animals for the simple reason that animals do not have these moral capacities we have mentioned. They are incapable of understanding, i.e., of moral reasoning, and such, all the other moral capacities could not be attributed to them. We have to state at this point that for Cohen, even psychologically disabled or comatosed human beings retain these rights plainly because they belong to the same kind. In one way or another, such human beings seem to ride on the capabilities of other human beings. Hence, for Cohen, animal experimentation (of course not withstanding useless cruelness to animals) should go on for the good of the human race since we could not talk of violation of any rights in the first place since animals do not have rights.Bernard Rollin (2001, 418) responds to Cohens arguments by saying that it might be true that rights started from humans, but, it does not mean that such rights should remain among humans. He made an analogy on the plot of land of chess. It might be true that chess was made initially for Persian royalty, nevertheless, the game started to have a life of its own and as such, it is not anymore restricted by the original makers of it. The same may be said about rights that human beings made and sorted out for themselves. What would stop the Bill of Rights from being applied to animals if sociological evolution would lead to such? Plainly, there is no guarantee that such rights would have to remain and be applicable only to its sources. In one way or another, Rollin seems to allude to the Ricoeurean hermeneutics on the life of the text, on the unstoppable and unfigurable refiguration of the text. Now, this may be true if the Bill of Rights could plainly be called a text, as a product of a social contract, but probably not if these rights are perceived in a naturalistic way.Rollin goes on to spread out his basic stand there seems to be no morally relevant inconsistency between humans and vertebrate animals to include all humans within the full scope of moral concern and yet deny such moral status to the anim als (2001, 413). Then, he goes on to define morally relevant difference it is a difference that rationally justifies treating them differently in some way that bears moral weight (2001, 413). Hence, Rollin says that if two students coming from two different races and having two different eye colors would have the same class standing, they would be given the same grade.Their differences cannot be considered as relevant for the teachers act of grading. Now, Rollin states that the differences between humans and other vertebrates are not relevant because aside from the fact that both feel pain, both also have interests that must be respected. True, human interests may be different from animal interests, but the fact remains that both are interest-driven.Animal interests are violated when they are made to suffer when social animals are kept in isolation when burrowing animals are kept in steel cages etcetera. Rollin also argues that there seems to be no difference between intellectually disabled humans and many animals, and hence, if consent is called for when experimenting on these human beings, such would also be called for when doing animal experimentation. The Middle Position Cohen is clear on his position we are not violating anything when animals are used in experimenting since these experiments are needed for the human good. Rollin, on the other hand, is on the soft position that animals and humans are not relevantly different, and hence, the rights accorded to human beings in research ought to be the same rights given to other vertebrates. For Rollin, simply, animals should be treated as humans particularly when it comes to biomedical research. Now, the consequences of their positions seem to be clear Cohens position is a defense of the status quo, while Rollins position implies that medical ciphers on human experimentation like the Nuremberg Code should all be extended to vertebrate animals. I would say that though it is true that certain animals exhibit c haracteristics that are almost like that of humans (like the great apes, for example), still, Cohen is right in saying that rationality as it is present in humanity makes humans largely different from the other animals (just look at all the human civilizations and histories which even the most intelligent animals are incapable of, and as such, I find it hard to understand wherefore Rollin says that the difference between animals and humans are not relevant differences), and as such, things that apply to human beings cannot all be applied to animals, like the medical code of ethics on human experimentation, for example. Such an application leads to difficult consequences. For one, such would necessitate the experimenter to gain the subjects consent. How do we get an animals consent? What standard should we use? Should we ask the owners? How about animals that do not have owners? Next would be the issue of informed consent. Again, who do we inform and whose key signature do we get? I would say that the present trend in animal experimentation in at least some parts of the arena is a sober middle ground since at least in ten developed countries, legal measures have been passed regarding the control of pain and suffering of testing ground animals. Many other countries also have legislation on the inspection of research and breeding facilities, requirement for daily care, the checking on the competency and the licenses of qualified persons who shell out the experiment, the monitoring by an independent committee, the searching for available alternatives for the experiment, and the creation of ethical criteria for decision making (Orlans 2001, 405).These legal concerns are far from the contents of the Code of Nuremberg or the Helsinki Declaration, nevertheless, they express a concern for the animals who also feels pain like human beings, and who also deserve a sort of concern from us. Hence, animal experimentation should not be stopped but legal constraints distinc t from that of human beings have to be put on such experiments since animals are also capable of pain and have interests.REFERENCE LISTCohen, Carl.
